Baraja: "tHE TEAM kePT going AND COMPETED UNTIL THE END"
The Valencia CF coach talks after the 2-2 result against Deportivo Alavés
Albert Celades with pleased with Valencia CF's showing on Friday night against Atletico Madrid, and felt that his team deserved a better result than a 2-2 draw.
The game
"I think that we had a great game. We had a great game and did everything to win against very difficult opponents, full of great players. We overcame difficulties during the game, such as going behind twice in a row, especially after the equaliser that we got to make it 1-1 following the early goal. That had hurt us. We went back to the dressing room and went into the second half with a great mentality. We did everything that a team needs to do to win. It's the path to follow."
Coming back from behind
"We were up against a very good side. They are very powerful and work very well collectively, as well as having some great individuals -top level players. I don't think we've conceded too many goals, but we'd like to have conceded fewer. There's the positive side, which is that we had clear chances against a very difficult side to play -and even more difficult to come back against, based on Atletico Madrid's showings in recent years. After they score, it's very difficult to come back against them. We did that twice. I think that we could have scored another goal, but it didn't happen. We leave here with a draw and with a good feeling about our play, but we did everything to win."
Ferran Torres
"Ferran Torres had a great game. He had a magnificent game, but so did everyone. I think that we had a great game. Ferran stands out for his runs at players and moves down the wing, which he is very strong from and could have led to us winning."
Gabriel Paulista's suspension
"As for the yellow card for Gabriel Paulista, it wasn't the best thing for us. It hurts us a lot, because as he can't play in the Champions League we were thinking he would play in San Sebastian. It isn't the best news for us."
Support at home
"The fans help us a lot at home. That's why we have this good record. We're very happy with them and very grateful for all that they give us. We hope to provide them with performances as good as today's, but with a favourable result."
Atalanta on Wednesday in the Champions League
"Atalanta are a very good side. They are a magnificent team. They have a lot of qualities. Maybe their name doesn't grab the attention as much as a Napoli or an AC Milan, but they are fourth and having a magnificent season, just like last year. They play very good football and are the side with the most goals in Serie A. They will be very tough, very difficult opponents. We are going to prepare for the game to get the best possible result."
